On The Reboot Chronicles Show we predominantly talk to organizations that have undergone or are currently going through a reboot to learn how leaders are adapting to an ever-changing world. Our audience learns best from leaders who take zoomed-out approaches to rebooting, and share the trends and disruptions they are seeing across sectors—with game plans they are formulating toward the future.

Josh Bersin, started several companies, one of which he sold to Deloitte. Since then, he founded The Josh Bersin Company and Academy, a human advisory firm, executive networking and co-learning community. On top of all of that, he is the author of the book Irresistible, and runs a conference under the same name. Listen in and learn about how to reboot organizations with AI, the struggles of getting the C-suite to adapt, and tips for the next generations of workers.

The Rise Of The Super Worker

At this point, it should be no surprise that AI is here to stay with every company champing at the bit to get AI integrated into their workflow. Many people are scared that this means they will be losing their jobs to an AI worker, which could be the case for some companies, but for others, it will lead to a restructuring that should open and close jobs. Josh notes that “ChatGPT just opened up this Pandora’s box of people saying, wow, I used to do this by hand. Now I’m not doing it by hand anymore, so what am I going to do with all this extra time?” This gives employees more time to direct the AI they are working over or spend more time on a separate project while the AI is doing its portion on the initial project.

Rebooting Return To Office (RTO)

RTO has been on the rise, especially in the last year. With the higher-ups saying that it is better for the company, and the average employee probably wishing they could continue to work from the comfort of their hopes, Josh came up with a great middle-ground for how to go about thinking if returning to the office is needed. For the managers and leaders who are thinking about enforcing at-office work again, Josh hopes you tell people “Why [you’re] getting together” and avoid forcing employees “into the office to sit around and do Zoom calls from their office.”

Advice For Next Gen Workers

For those of you who are about to, or have already, entered the job hunt, Josh has some advice he wished he learned when he was younger and in your shoes. The big piece of advice is even if the job you are currently working at is not ideal, or frankly is awful, there is probably something that you can learn from it that you can take to your next position. Even if the job was awful “In ten years from now, you’re going to look back at all the things you did, and you’re going to realize, that job was really horrible, [and] I learned a lot”. This also applies to jobs that you like. Another piece of advice is to “develop your own sense of self-confidence in the roles that you’re interested in applying for.” Josh goes on to mention that recruiters or hiring managers aren’t only looking for technical or professional skills. “They look for people that are confident enough to take on new challenges.”
