In our current corporate climate, we are only just starting to appreciate the interconnectedness of health and happiness with productivity and loyalty. According to Mintel, 77% of US adults are actively trying to improve their health by taking supplements, skincare & healthcare products.

Despite this, we are living in a world where everyone is going to suffer from a chronic disease. So how can we make chronic diseases optional? What is the future of health, food & wellness? How can we become the CEO of our own health?

I recently spoke with one of my most energetic friends Naveen Jain, who is founder of Viome, EY’s Entrepreneur of the Year, India’s “Most Admired Serial Entrepreneur” and Albert Einstein Technology Medal recipient about the future of healthcare, food, and how to make chronic diseases optional.

Lifestyle Diseases

“When thinking about illnesses that impact a person’s health, we often think of common ones such as a cold. Chronic diseases are not something people think of regularly. The majority of people are aware that the term “chronic disease” includes conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, asthma and mental health illnesses. But what if we can make a chronic disease optional?” says Naveen Jain.

Genetic factors are not the major causes of chronic diseases. Rather, the fundamental reason behind chronic diseases is your ecosystem – within it and outside of it.

Personalized Healthcare

At Jain’s company, Viome, they have recognized a clear link between the function of digestive organisms and overall health. Viome can test what’s happening inside the body at a biochemist level. With analyzed personal data, it is possible to identify how microbes are behaving and how to optimize the digestive ecosystem with food.

According to Jain, moving forward each individual is going to become the CEO of their own health. “My thinking is why not take control of your health? It’s my mission to make sure that no one else has to see their loved ones die from chronic diseases.”

Further, Jain believes that for the first time in human history, because of technology developed by Viome, it is possible to completely digitize the human body. It is the foundation that will make personalized healthcare become a reality.
